The Marianjoy Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program typically treats patients with brain injury (both open and closed) due to: Trauma, Cerebral hemorrhage, Infection, Tumors, Oxygen deprivation (anoxia or hypoxia). Patients receive an individually tailored treatment plan that is developed after an evaluation of the patient's abilities and needs.
Marianjoy offers the following services for patients with brain injury:
- Daily interactions with a physiatrist
- An individualized treatment plan focusing on a patient's mobility (i.e. walking, stair climbing, strengthening and balance/coordination)
- Assistive technology including fabricating casts or splint and customized wheelchair fitting
- Activities of Daily Living training
- Cognitive retraining
- Swallowing and voice therapy
- Ongoing patient monitoring by a registered nurse
- Emotional support and counseling for the patient and family
- Family education
- Discharge planning and insurance coordination
- Prayer support and worship services
