Researchers followed people with brain injury for one year and found that pre-injury and early post-injury psychiatric issues can predict later post-injury psychiatric disorders.People without pre-injury psychiatric issues were much less likely to have a psychiatric disorder, particularly depression, at one year post-injury. These factors could provide clinicians with a useful indicator of later risk and flag those most in need of monitoring.
