Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center

Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC) provides care for all levels of brain injury and includes: a trauma center, intensive care unit, acute neurological treatment unit, as well as an inpatient brain injury rehabilitation unit, an outpatient brain injury treatment program (STARS), and home health services.

The Inpatient Brain Injury Program at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center (SARMC) was established in 1986. Patients with traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries are accepted. SARMC is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

The outpatient brain injury treatment program (STARS)  focuses on patients who have sustained mild, moderate, or severe traumatic brain injury or other neurological event (e.g., anoxic event, brain tumor, etc.). The following services are provided: Physiatry, Neuro-psychology, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Recreational Therapy. To be admitted, patients must be medically stable and no longer require more intensive services (i.e., acute inpatient rehabilitation or a skilled nursing facility  level of care), but do required continued rehabilitation for independence with mobility, activities of daily living, communication, cognition, psychosocial adjustment, work reentry, school reentry or avocational activity. This excludes those patients who have significant secondary diagnoses (i.e., psychiatric or substance abuse/abuse/dependency problems) or patients with extreme behavioral control issues that might threaten the safety of other patients or staff.
