Amanda Stombaugh was 37 weeks pregnant when her three-year-old daughter, Ashlyn, her five-year-old son, Noah, and her husband were in a near-fatal car crash with a dump truck. Ashlyn sustained a severe brain injury and was in a medically-induced coma for 11 days.

BrainLine spoke with Amanda about how she managed through the trauma, Ashlyn’s rehabilitation, managing the behavior of a young child with a severe TBI, how to practice self-care while parenting three children, communicating with Ashlyn’s school, helping Ashlyn with social situations, and more.

BrainLine produced this interview in collaboration with the University of Oregon’s Center for Brain Injury Research and Training.
